Nino Rota - La Dolce Vita main theme

"La dolce vita", film che vinse la Palma d’Oro al Festival di Cannes nel 1960 come miglior film, più moltissimi altri premi, , è uno di quei film che è entrato nell'immaginario collettivo mondiale, il termine "dolce vita" stesso in tutte l lingue del mondo è diventato sinonimo di Italia. La colonna sonora del film è divenuta altrettanto famosa a livello universale, con quella musica che con rara sensibilità illumina i personaggi, da loro spessore e dipinge con grazia l'intero mondo immaginario felliniano.

A Casablanca nel 1941 si incrociano le storie di spie naziste, antifascisti in fuga, forze dell’ordine, avventurieri e delinquenti di mezza tacca. Il protagonista è Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), americano, proprietario di un locale notturno, innamorato da sempre di Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), adesso moglie di un perseguitato politico, che lui aiuta a lasciare la città. Questo film è un insieme di archetipi e topos che poi si rincontreranno in decine e decine di altri film successivi, sino ai nostri giorni. Tratto dalla piece teatrale “Everybody comes to Rick's,” che mai andò in scena, fu vincitore di 3 Oscar e il pezzo “As times goes by”, parte della colonna sonora, rimarrà per sempre nella storia del cinema.

Questo film noir, un classico della Golden Age di Hollywood, diretto da Billy Wilder ed interpretato da William Holden, Gloria Swanson, Erich von Stroheim e Nancy Olson, resterà per sempre una icona nell'immaginario collettico, così come la sua colonna sonora, scritta dal grande Franz Waxman.
Il film inizia con la cinepresa che fa uan inadratura lungo Sunset Boulevard a Los Angeles, inseguendo un'auto della polizia che la percorre correndo. Il corpo esanime di un uomo, Joe Gillis ( W. Holden), un giovane soggettista di cinematografico, il cui corpo è inquadrato mentre galleggia nella piscina di un lussuosa abitazione Hollywoodiana e, mentre la polizia si dirige proprio verso quella casa, la voce di Joe Gills racconta, come in un flashback, gli eventi che hanno portato al suo assassinio. Un grandissimo film sul divismo e sulla macchaina dei sogni.
